The Treatment

What is an algae peel?

An algae peel — also called a marine peel or bio-needling peel — uses freeze-dried algae powder rich in microscopic silica spicules. Massaged into cleansed skin, these tiny needle-shaped structures embed in the upper layers and create thousands of controlled micro-channels.
Skin responds to that the way it responds to any controlled micro-injury: circulation increases, cell turnover accelerates, and collagen and elastin production is stimulated. Over the following three to seven days the surface layer sheds and newer skin is revealed. The minerals, amino acids and vitamins in the algae are delivered through those same channels while it happens.
The distinction that matters is that no acids are involved. That makes it a genuine option for clients whose skin reacts to chemical peels, and it produces a deeper renewal than a superficial acid peel. But it is an active treatment with real downtime — this is not a facial to book two days before a wedding.

Benefits

Why Choose Algae Peel at Kaaya

Deeper renewal than a surface facial, achieved without acids or needles — provided you can plan for the shedding.

Deep renewal, no acids

Resurfacing driven by physical micro-channels rather than chemical exfoliation, so acid-sensitive skin can still be treated properly.

Stimulates collagen

The controlled micro-injury response builds new collagen and elastin over the weeks following treatment.

Softens acne scarring

Shallow scars and stubborn post-acne marks respond well as the surface layer renews and new collagen fills in beneath.

Evens tone

Accelerated shedding of pigmented surface cells lifts uneven tone and helps break up patches of discolouration.

Refines texture and pores

Rough, thickened or congested skin is noticeably smoother once the shedding phase completes.

Marine nutrient delivery

Minerals, vitamins and amino acids from the algae are carried into the skin through the channels the spicules create.

The Ritual

How your algae peel appointment runs

Thorough, deliberate, and followed by an aftercare plan you will actually need.

01

Consultation & suitability check

We confirm no shellfish or iodine allergy, review medications and skin history, and make sure you can accommodate the downtime before booking.

02

Cleanse & prep

A thorough double cleanse takes the skin back to clean so the spicules make even contact across the whole face.

03

Spicule massage

The algae is worked into the skin with a firm, methodical massage, typically fifteen to twenty minutes. Warmth and prickling build during this — expected, and it stops when the massage stops.

04

Calming mask

A cooling, anti-inflammatory mask brings the heat down and settles the skin immediately after the massage.

05

Barrier cream & SPF

A rich barrier repair cream and mineral sunscreen protect skin that is about to enter its shedding phase.

06

Aftercare kit & schedule

You leave with a post-peel routine, a clear picture of what to expect on which day, and your follow-up appointment booked.

Algae Peel vs Chemical Peels vs Microneedling – Which Is Right for You?

The needle-free and acid-free options compared against the two treatments people usually weigh them against.

How Algae Peel Compares With Chemical Peel and Microneedling

  Algae Peel Chemical Peel Microneedling
How it works Marine silica spicules — no acid Cosmetic-grade acid resurfacing Fine needles at a controlled depth
Best for Acne scarring, pigmentation, texture Pigmentation, post-acne marks, breakouts Indented acne scars, firmness, fine lines
Downtime Peeling, days 3–7 Light flaking, days 2–4 Redness, 24–48 hours
Typical course 1–3 treatments, 4–6 weeks apart Course of 4–6, 2–4 weeks apart 3–6 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart

These are guides rather than rules. At consultation we look at your skin and tell you which of the three will actually move the needle for your concern.

Suitability

Is an algae peel right for you?

A great fit if you want to…

Expect a reaction, because this is not a gentle facial. For the first twenty-four to seventy-two hours skin feels tight, hot and itchy and looks red. Peeling typically begins on day three and runs through to day five to seven. That sequence is the treatment working as designed, and we send you home with everything you need to manage it comfortably.

Concerns it helps with:

Acne scars
Post-acne marks
Pigmentation
Rough texture
Enlarged-looking pores
Dullness
Early fine lines

Before you book: when this treatment is not appropriate

An algae peel is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have a shellfish or iodine allergy, during an active acne flare, with rosacea or facial eczema, while taking isotretinoin, or if you cannot stay out of direct sun for a fortnight afterwards. We check all of this before we take the booking rather than on the day.

If this is not quite the right treatment

If your acne is currently active, we would treat that first with a customised acne treatment and plan the peel once things have settled. If a week of peeling is simply not workable, a Hydro Facial gives you a visible result with nothing to recover from.

Questions

Algae Peel FAQs — London, Ontario

How much downtime should I expect?
You will feel building heat and prickling through the fifteen to twenty minute massage — it is the strongest sensation of any needle-free treatment we offer. It is manageable, we work at your pace, and the sensation stops when the massage does.
Redness and tightness for one to three days, then visible peeling from roughly day three through day seven. Plan for a full week and avoid booking anything social in that window.
Most concerns need one to three peels spaced four to six weeks apart. Many clients find one treatment per season is enough to maintain the result once the initial course is done.
A chemical peel resurfaces with acids and has lighter downtime, making it easier to fit around life and better suited to gradual courses. An algae peel uses no acid, goes deeper in one session, and is the better option if acids irritate your skin — at the cost of a week of visible peeling.
Both work by controlled micro-injury, but microneedling reaches the dermis at a set depth and is the stronger option for indented, textural scarring. An algae peel stays shallower, involves no needles and delivers nutrients as it works. For deep rolling or boxcar scars, microneedling is the more effective choice.
