Kaaya Skin And Hair Studio

Dermaplaning with Deep Cleansing in London, Ontario

The Treatment

What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment. Held at a shallow angle, a sterile single-use blade skims the surface of the skin and removes the outermost layer of dead cells along with vellus hair — the fine “peach fuzz” that traps oil and mutes the complexion.
At Kaaya we pair it with a deep cleanse, because exfoliation alone only addresses the surface. A double cleanse, steam to soften the pore lining, careful extractions of blackheads and congestion, then a treatment mask and barrier care. Dermaplaning removes what sits on top; the deep cleanse clears what sits underneath.
There is no anaesthetic and no downtime — most clients describe it as a light, feathery scraping. The difference is immediate: foundation stops catching on fine hair, and serums reach skin that is no longer shielded by a layer of dead cells.

Benefits

Why Choose Dermaplaning with Deep Cleansing at Kaaya

One appointment, a visible change the same day — and a base that makes everything you apply afterwards work harder.

Instantly smoother texture

Removing the top layer of dead cells and vellus hair leaves skin noticeably softer to the touch before you leave the studio.

Makeup that sits flat

Foundation stops clinging to peach fuzz, so base makeup looks smoother in person and considerably better on camera.

Better product absorption

With the dead-cell barrier gone, serums and moisturisers penetrate instead of sitting on the surface and pilling.

Genuinely clearer pores

The deep-cleansing stage clears blackheads, whiteheads and congestion that exfoliation on its own will not shift.

A brighter, fresher tone

Dull surface cells are what flatten your complexion. Take them away and the newer skin underneath reflects light properly.

No downtime at all

Nothing chemical, nothing invasive. Mild pinkness settles within the hour and there is no peeling or recovery period.

The Ritual

How your dermaplaning appointment runs

Six steps, unhurried, with the exfoliation and the cleansing doing two different jobs.

01

Skin analysis & consultation

We look at your skin type, current products and any active breakouts, and confirm dermaplaning is the right treatment for you today.

02

Double cleanse

An oil-based cleanse lifts makeup, sunscreen and surface oil, followed by a water-based cleanse so the blade works on genuinely clean skin.

03

Dermaplaning

Skin is held taut and worked over in short, controlled strokes with a fresh sterile blade, section by section across the face.

04

Steam & extractions

Warm steam softens the pore lining, then blackheads, whiteheads and congestion are cleared by hand — carefully, and never over inflamed lesions.

05

Treatment mask

A mask chosen for your skin on the day — calming, clarifying or deeply hydrating — settles everything after exfoliation.

06

Barrier care & SPF

Serum, moisturiser and broad-spectrum sunscreen. Freshly exfoliated skin is more sun-sensitive, so this step is not optional.

Dermaplaning vs Microdermabrasion vs Chemical Peel — Which Is Right for You?

All three exfoliate, but only one removes facial hair — and they differ in how deep they work and what they leave behind.

How Dermaplaning Compares With Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peel

  Dermaplaning Microdermabrasion Chemical Peel
How it works Manual exfoliation with a sterile single-use blade Diamond-tip abrasion with vacuum suction Cosmetic-grade acid resurfacing
Best for Dullness, peach fuzz, surface congestion Rough texture, shallow scarring, pores Pigmentation, post-acne marks, breakouts
Downtime None None — brief pinkness Light flaking, days 2–4
Typical course Every 4–6 weeks Course of 6, then monthly Course of 4–6, 2–4 weeks apart

These are guides rather than rules. At consultation we look at your skin and tell you which of the three will actually move the needle for your concern.

Suitability

Is dermaplaning right for you?

A great fit if you want to…

Dermaplaning suits most skin types, including skin that reacts to chemical exfoliants — nothing is left on the surface, so there is no ongoing acid activity to tolerate. It is often a sensible starting point if peels have stung or irritated you in the past.

Concerns it helps with:

Dull skin
Peach fuzz
Rough texture
Blackheads
Congested pores
Flaky patches
Makeup pilling

Before you book: when this treatment is not appropriate

There are situations where we will not dermaplane. Active, inflamed or cystic acne, cold sores in the treatment area, sunburn, and current isotretinoin use all rule it out — passing a blade over raised lesions can spread bacteria and make breakouts worse. Tell us about prescription retinoids or recent peels when you book, and we will recommend a gentler alternative for now.

If this is not quite the right treatment

If pigmentation or post-acne marks are what actually bother you, a chemical peel works deeper than any surface exfoliation can, and we would start you there instead.

Questions

Dermaplaning with Deep Cleansing FAQs — London, Ontario

Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?
No. Dermaplaning cuts vellus hair straight across rather than at a taper, so it can feel blunter for a few days as it grows out. The colour, thickness and growth rate of the hair are determined by the follicle, which is not touched during the treatment.
Every four to six weeks, which matches the skin’s natural cell turnover cycle. More frequently than that gives your barrier no time to recover between treatments.
No. There is no needle and no acid — most clients describe a light scraping or tickling sensation. Skin may look slightly pink for thirty to sixty minutes afterwards, and that is all.
We would suggest leaving skin bare for the rest of the day, with sunscreen. Freshly exfoliated skin absorbs everything more readily, including pigments and preservatives, and giving it a few hours reduces the chance of irritation.
If your breakouts are active and inflamed, not yet — we would start with a customised acne treatment instead. Once things have calmed down, dermaplaning is a good way to keep pores clear and stop congestion rebuilding.
