The Treatment

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion resurfaces the skin using a diamond-tipped handpiece paired with gentle suction. The tip abrades the stratum corneum — the layer of dead cells sitting on the surface — while the vacuum lifts that debris away and draws fresh blood flow to the treated area.
That controlled abrasion does two things at once. Immediately, it smooths texture and clears the surface so skin looks brighter. Over a course of sessions, the mild stimulation encourages new cell turnover and collagen production, which is what gradually softens the look of shallow acne scarring and fine lines.
It is non-invasive and needle-free, which makes it one of the most approachable resurfacing treatments on our menu. We adjust the depth of the pass and the strength of the suction to your skin as we go — lighter over the cheeks and around the eyes, firmer across the nose, chin and forehead where congestion tends to sit.

Benefits

Why Choose Microdermabrasion at Kaaya

Results you can feel after one session, and results that accumulate over a planned course.

Smoother, refined texture

Buffing away the built-up surface layer leaves skin measurably softer and more even to the touch.

Softens shallow scarring

Over a course of treatments, resurfacing helps blur the edges of rolling and boxcar acne scars that sit close to the surface.

Pores that look smaller

Clearing the debris that stretches a pore open makes it appear tighter, particularly across the nose and chin.

A more even tone

Regular resurfacing lifts sun-induced dullness and helps fade superficial pigmentation over time.

Fewer clogged pores

Suction pulls loosened sebum and debris out rather than pushing it deeper, so congestion is slower to rebuild.

Skincare that performs

Products applied to freshly resurfaced skin absorb properly instead of sitting on a barrier of dead cells.

The Ritual

How your microdermabrasion session runs

A structured resurfacing, with the intensity set by your skin rather than by a fixed protocol.

01

Consultation & skin check

We assess your skin type and tone, review recent treatments and products, and agree the depth we will work at today.

02

Cleanse & prep

A thorough double cleanse removes makeup, sunscreen and surface oil so the handpiece makes even contact with the skin.

03

The resurfacing pass

The diamond tip is drawn across the skin in overlapping passes, section by section, with suction dialled to your tolerance and skin thickness.

04

Targeted second pass

Congested or textured zones — usually nose, chin and forehead — receive a second, more focused pass while thinner areas are left alone.

05

Soothing serum & mask

A calming, hydrating mask settles any warmth or pinkness and rebalances the freshly resurfaced surface.

06

Moisture, barrier & SPF

Moisturiser and broad-spectrum sunscreen, plus a short aftercare list of what to leave out of your routine for the next few days.

Microdermabrasion vs Dermaplaning vs Chemical Peel — Which Is Right for You?

Three ways to resurface the surface of the skin, from gentlest to strongest.

How Microdermabrasion Compares With Dermaplaning and Chemical Peel

  Microdermabrasion Dermaplaning Chemical Peel
How it works Diamond-tip abrasion with vacuum suction Manual exfoliation with a sterile single-use blade Cosmetic-grade acid resurfacing
Best for Rough texture, shallow scarring, pores Dullness, peach fuzz, surface congestion Pigmentation, post-acne marks, breakouts
Downtime None — brief pinkness None Light flaking, days 2–4
Typical course Course of 6, then monthly Every 4–6 weeks Course of 4–6, 2–4 weeks apart

These are guides rather than rules. At consultation we look at your skin and tell you which of the three will actually move the needle for your concern.

Suitability

Is microdermabrasion right for you?

A great fit if you want to…

Most skin types tolerate microdermabrasion well. Because it is mechanical rather than chemical, it is a sensible option if acids sting your skin, and the intensity can be lowered or raised session by session as we learn how you respond. It also carries a lower risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation than aggressive chemical resurfacing, which matters for deeper skin tones.

Concerns it helps with:

Rough texture
Shallow acne scars
Enlarged-looking pores
Dullness
Blackheads
Uneven tone
Fine lines

Before you book: when this treatment is not appropriate

It is not right for everyone. Active or cystic acne, rosacea in flare, facial eczema, recent sunburn, cold sores and isotretinoin use within the last six months all rule it out for the time being. Deeper icepick scarring responds far better to microneedling, and established pigmentation to a chemical peel — we would rather tell you that at consultation than sell you a course that will not move the needle.

If this is not quite the right treatment

Two nearby options if this is not quite the fit. Dermaplaning is the gentler manual alternative and takes facial hair off as well as dead skin. A Glow Facial is the better choice if you mainly want radiance rather than resurfacing — and for younger skin, our Teen Facial is built around congestion rather than texture.

Questions

Microdermabrasion FAQs — London, Ontario

How many microdermabrasion sessions will I need?
Texture and brightness improve after a single session. For scarring and uneven tone, plan a course of around six treatments spaced two to three weeks apart, followed by monthly maintenance to hold the result.
No. Most clients describe it as a sandpaper-and-suction sensation — odd rather than painful. Skin usually looks slightly pink for an hour or two afterwards and settles on its own.
Microdermabrasion is mechanical and works on the surface, so it targets texture, congestion and dullness and is gentler on reactive skin. A chemical peel works deeper and is the stronger choice for established pigmentation and post-acne discolouration.
Yes, and it is a good pre-event treatment — but book it five to seven days ahead rather than the day before, so any pinkness has fully settled and your skin has had time to look its best.
Leave out retinoids, acids and physical scrubs for three days. Skip hot yoga, saunas and chlorinated pools for twenty-four to forty-eight hours, and wear broad-spectrum SPF daily — resurfaced skin burns far more easily.
